What is SEO

SEO Stands for “Search Engine Optimization” and it is the practice of optimizing a website to better rank on search engines like Google.

It is the reason behind my heading “What is SEO”, this term or in SEO language this “keyword” has a good Volume meaning many people search for it on google and i want this page to appear when people search for this keyword. To achieve this i have to perform a set of implementations and optimizations and i have to do it better than a lot of people because many other people are trying to do the very same. Welcome to the Jungle, The world wide web Jungle.

But don’t worry…

You are here now and i am here to guide you through the aspect of SEO, Although if you ask me What is SEO? i will tell you these days it doesn’t just mean Search Engine Optimization instead its more like Search Engine and User Optimization. Because if you don’t optimize your site for user experience and people bounce off your website google would probably drop your website in the results page in order to achieve true rankings you must make your website both SEO and User friendly.

Good SEO is responsible for the ‘Organic traffic’ you get from the Search Engines when people type in what they are looking for and organic traffic will be the main source of traffic if you do it right other traffic being referral, social and paid traffic etc that is not to be confused with the organic traffic.

Another confusion may also be SEM that is very Different from SEO and is actually responsible for the paid traffic i wrote earlier. SEM stands for ‘Search Engine Marketing’ you simply pay a Search Engine to appear for the in the SERP for the keywords you choose but there is more to it lets not get in that now as we are here to talk about SEO.

I would like to add here that search engine does not only means Google it also covers other search engines like BingYahooBaidu etc.

But here’s the thing…

Most people don’t care about any other search engine the reason being: “Everyone searches on Google” like almost everyone have a look at this Pie chart:

This chart shows us the percentage of people that used the search engine respectively from Oct 2017 to Oct 2018, With Google of course claiming the lions share. But that doesn’t mean you have to completely ignore those other search engines but the main focus shall always be GOOGLE because… you know the chart.

The constant changes in Google’s Search Algorithms are making SEO more complex day by day. With dedicated Algorithms like Google Rank Brain, Penguin, Panda etc it is very hard now to trick google into giving you a rank boost like good old days, those days are gone. Today Google is very very smart and there are a lot of ways to get penalized easily, you have to stick to the guidelines provided by google and avoid shady techniques.

Now Back to the first question. You know about Search engines lets get back to search engine optimization.

What is SEO? It is the process of optimizing a website accordingly so that it can rank better in search engines. There are a set of practices to be performed in order to do so & there are many things that need to be done, and all those practices are divided in two main categories according to their nature and those are:

“On-Page SEO” and “Off-Page SEO”

Basically all the optimization that have to be done on your website are classified as On-Page SEO. this includes your websites loading speed, keywords placement, Meta tags and the list goes on really. But all those stuff needs to be done on the website from design, development and content. Visit the Onpage SEO page for all details.

The optimizations that need to be done outside your website are called Off-page SEO. Link building is the core Offpage SEO that needs to be done, for details visit the Offpage SEO page.

Confused? Don’t be Just ask in Comments or head on to the next page to learn more about ii and keep exploring 🙂
